Battle Motors has announced its newly expanded production facility in New Philadelphia, Ohio is up and running after nearly tripling its size.
Headquartered in Los Angeles, California, the Ohio hub of the company’s manufacturing operation has increased from 125,000 square feet to 325,000 square feet—more than five football fields placed end-to-end.
The facility is where Battle Motors manufactures purpose-built diesel, CNG (clean natural gas), and all-electric vehicles for the vocational truck industry. Its trucks excel in a multitude of applications, including middle-mile and last-mile delivery.
Battle Motors was founded in 2021 by its chief executive officer Michael Patterson, the founder of Romeo Power, developing electric vehicle technology. It also acquired the New Philadelphia-based Crane Carrier Company, LLC which has been manufacturing commercial vehicles for 76 years.
Larger and newly modernized, the facility will help the company maximize the throughput of its multiple production lines, to transform operations as it scales up to meet the demands of the evolving national transportation landscape with fully electric trucks.
Expansion and upgrades were made via the addition of production lines, shipping bays, and receiving docks, as well as the latest technologies for fabrication, paint application, and vehicle assembly.
Paterson said the “expansion of our factory and scaling of production represents the most ambitious chapter yet in the 75-year history of this company. We have [invested] in the expansion of the physical plant, acquired the right technology, and most importantly, we have made a commitment to the people of Central Ohio by already adding 200 employees to our workforce and creating high-tech jobs at a truly momentous time. It’s game on.”
Battle Motors invested $32 million in the facility to jump-start fabrication, production capacity, and vehicle delivery on a level commensurate with the company’s plans. The investment allows the team to manufacture its full line of trucks with disruptive feature sets including a best-in-class powertrain paired with the Battle Motors “Smart Cab” featuring a digital instrument cluster and proprietary software, RevolutionOS.
“Reaching this milestone is definitely an achievement we’re very proud of,” stated Cody Boggs, the company's Chief Operating Officer. “Our team of local labor and contractors minimized the disruption that can be expected with an expansion of this size, and our production numbers throughout have been really impressive. Working within the limitations of our original factory, we still hit record numbers month-over-month, reaching our 2021 total by July of this year.”
Battle Motors is even more optimistic about future production, driven by the new facility’s continuous assembly flow and automation upgrades, powered by vertical integration capabilities including 3D printing, laser cutting, and CNC machining.
Looking farther along the road, the company owns additional acreage adjacent to the new facility where the build-out of new assets is planned. These include everything from R&D and prototype fabrication spaces to a test track.
