After a long hiatus, Royal Truck Body staffed a booth of its own at the Work Truck Show.
“It’s been many years,” said Blake Montero, Royals’ director of sales, at the show. Nearly two decades, according to a news release issued at the start of the show, which took place March 3-6 in Indianapolis.
California-based Royal’s return to the show came on the heels of its acquisition last September by Spartan Motors Inc. Royal is now part of Spartan’s Specialty Chassis and Vehicles business unit.
While Royal hasn’t exhibited at its own booth at the show for years, the company and Montero have attended the show and also exhibited trucks in the booths of other companies, such as Ford Commercial Vehicles.
This time around, Royal exhibited under the Spartan umbrella along with Spartan’s Utilimaster brand of delivery van and truck bodies.
Royal displayed an eight-foot service body and an 11-foot severe duty body described as “a bolstered version” of the eight-foot body. The eight footer featured “heavy-duty double-walled compartments, ample storage space, stainless steel tailgate guards, a key coded locking tailgate, and Royal’s Fortress 5-Point Lock System,” said the news release.
The latter is available on all Royal bodies, Montero said. “So there’s one key to the whole truck,” he said.
The severe duty body, meanwhile, boasts “A60 galvannealed steel body construction, a 12-guage diamond plate steel floor, and 10-guage cross members.”
The 11 footer is also 46 inches high and comes as “either in a crane-reinforced body or as a standard service body,” Montero said. “So we went a little bit taller body than normal, and reinforced the top. So they’re good for putting equipment on the top lids,” Montero said.
That would include compressors, welders, and multifunction units. The 11-foot would body would also accommodate a lube skid.
“It would be a great mechanics struck,” Montero said.
