Load King LLC, whose product lines include Voyager I and II mechanics bodies, has acquired the boom truck, crossover, and truck crane product lines from Terex Corporation.
“This announcement marks the latest chapter in a resurgence at Load King, which, since becoming a wholly-owned subsidiary of Custom Truck One Source in December of 2015, has proudly resumed a leading position in the industry,” Custom Truck One Source CEO Fred Ross said in a recent news release announcing the acquisition.
At the time of the announcement in late April, Load King was transferring inventory and equipment for the acquired product lines to its growing campus in Kansas City. The company plans to unveil new and enhanced crane configurations in the near future, among other developments and opportunities expected to accelerate its continued growth.
“We will work closely with Custom Truck One Source to ensure a smooth transition and will continue to sell parts to our boom truck, truck crane and crossover customers during an expected one-year transition period,” Terex CEO and chairman John Garrison said in a separate news release.
The sale is part of a Terex strategy to focus on areas where it has a strong market position, Garrison noted. “After completion of this transaction with Load King and the sale of Demag Mobile Cranes to Tadano, Terex will remain in the rough terrain and tower crane businesses,” he pointed out. Terex is headquartered in Westport, Conn.
Formerly called Utility One Source, Custom Truck changed its name in February 2018 as part of a major rebranding to position the company as a “one stop shop.” The Blackstone Group LP formed Utility One in January 2015 by bringing together three family businesses — Custom Truck & Equipment, Utility Fleet Sales and Forestry Equipment of Virginia.
Custom Truck started in April 1996 “with a handful of guys,” including his six brothers and two of their sisters, Ross says in a video on the company website, www.customtruck.com.
In addition to its own lines of service bodies, Custom Truck is also a dealer for such familiar brands as Iowa Mold Tooling, Stellar, and Reading.
Load King itself has been producing trailers and other heavy equipment since 1956. For more information, visit www.loadkingmfg.com.
