The Auto Crane story: the history of an industry
In 1958, entrepreneurs Claire Simmons and Carl White devised a small crane that literally fit in the trunk of an automobile. That invention solved a problem for oil-field service technicians who previously had to hoist heavy drill bits through back-breaking physical work.
The name Auto Crane was born. So was a whole new industry built on the concept of mobile service to lift and repair heavy equipment in remote areas. Auto Crane quickly became a staple in the oil fields. Eliminating downtime and expense of off-site repairs, heavy components could now be serviced on-site.
Over the decades, Auto Crane continued pioneering service crane innovations, including:
Auto Crane Innovations
- The first electric cable crane with new and unprecedented lifting capacities for even bigger equipment.
- The first fully hydraulic line of service cranes, increasing productivity with fully hydraulic hoists, boom extensions, and power rotation.
- The first electric over hydraulic service crane, giving operators more versatility.
