Clean Fueling
Association of Equipment Manufacturers offers clean tips for tier 4 fuel.
An infographic is now available to remind equipment users about five key steps to keeping fuel clean in tier 4 engines.
The “Get CLEAN on Fuel” infographic from the Association of Equipment Manufacturers employs the acronym, CLEAN, to outline and expand upon the following quick tips:
• Commit to understanding your T4 engine.
• Learn the facts about today’s fuel.
• Evaluate your fuel source and fuel handling.
• Always follow manufacturer guidelines.
• Never take your role for granted.
William “Bernie” Bernhard, AEM’s technical and safety services manager, said in a news release that “while the new engines reduce diesel emissions and protect our health and the environment, the fact is they are rather finicky about fuel.”
He added that the ultra-low diesel fuel in use today differs greatly from diesel used only a few years ago. For example, the newer diesel fuel contains 99 percent less sulfur and has a shelf life of about six months.
“Among other things, it is subject to change and contamination as it moves from the refinery to the engine, making storage, temperature, age and filtration, and related factors critical in maintaining fuel quality,” Bernhard said.
