Xos, Inc., a Los Angeles-based company developing fully-electric Classes 5 to 8 commercial vehicles for last-mile service, recently announced its mobile charging station—the Xos Hub.
The implication is that feet operators can now move to electric transport option skipping the need for the installation of permanent support infrastructure—easing the transition to electric fleet operation for businesses.
Under its new Xos Energy Solutions division, the Xos Hub one-stop shop for the electrification of commercial fleet vehicles includes XosServe, an on-demand infrastructure as a service platform that provides/offers site evaluations, energy storage development and energy management systems.
The Xos Hub is transportable, housed within a standard 53-foot trailer, and can charge via its CCS1 connectors up to five vehicles simultaneously. The hub, itself, can charge its internal batteries from the grid, and can use an existing electrical infrastructure without requiring any special permits or construction costs.
The Xos Hub also uses solar panels on the roof to charge system, but said its primary use is to provide power to the Cloud-enabled control and safety systems.
Xos is offering its hub as part of a “Fleet-as-a-Service” option or as a standalone lease.
On August 18, 2021, Xos and NextGen Acquisition Group—a blank check company whose business purpose is to effect a merger, capital stock exchange, asset acquisition, stock purchase, reorganization, or similar business combination with one or more businesses—announced a combining of businesses to be known as Xos, Inc.
For service truck fleet owners who are planning on going electric, the Xos mobile charging plan is an intriguing option.
