The largest construction show in North America, CONEXPO-CON/AGG, is happening from March 14 to March 18, 2023.
As the show approaches, there are other timely events influencing the CONEXPO-CON/AGG such as International Women’s Day on March 8, 2023, and Women in Construction week from March 5 to 11.
These women-focused events have encouraged CONEXPO-CON/AGG to shine a light on women in the construction industry and inspire more to join. Motivating women to work in construction (as well as mobile repair) is especially important as the industry continues to deal with labor shortages.
The number of women working in construction has been increasing since 2013 and recently hit a record high with 1,173,000 women in the industry. Although this is a promising trend, women still make up less than 11% of construction workers in the USA.
Show Director, Dana Wuesthoff explains CONEXPO-CON/AGG’s approach to supporting women in the industry when saying, “As North America’s largest construction show, we recognize the important and growing role women play in our industry, and CONEXPO-CON/AGG has invited a number of influential women to share their experiences working in construction”.
Attendees at the show can learn from women and network together by participating in the sessions mentioned by Dana Wuesthoff, which include:
- Collaborating with Women in Construction.
- Hosted by Alexandra Smith (Al the Little Operator)
- Bold Leadership for Women
- Hosted by Kristina Mahler McMillan, Alicia Brentzel, Amanda Kurt, Katherine Freeman, and Stephanie Susott.
- Changing Culture with Professional Development: How a School Teacher Duo is Changing the Industry as We Know It
- Hosted by Missy Guerrero Scherber, Kayti Bjorklund-Strandlund, and Ry Bostrom
- Women in the Workforce: Recruit, Retain, Promote
- Hosted by Rachel Quam, Ashly Rieman, Latrell Cates, Mary Katherine Harbin, and Shawn Boyce
- Ask the Influencers: Panel Discussion & Meet Up with the Most Popular Construction Minds
- Hosted by Missy Guerrero Scherber, James Starbuck, Katie Kelleher, Matthew Stanley, and Taylor White
This is not the first time CONEXPO-CON/AGG has highlighted women during their show. In 2020, they unveiled a 19-foot, 3D printed statue of a women construction worker to honor women in the industry. At the time, it was the world’s largest 3D printed statue.
