Did you know that more than 60 percent of truck drivers are pet owners, and nearly 40 percent bring their furry companions on the road? To support this growing community, Volvo Trucks North America has teamed up with the Center for Pet Safety to promote safer and more comfortable travel for commercial drivers and their pets.
For many long-haul drivers, pets offer companionship and emotional support, helping create a sense of home during long trips. This new partnership aims to provide drivers with reliable resources and information to keep their pets safe and comfortable while on the road.
“For many long-haul drivers, their dog is their constant companion through every mile,” said Maddie Sullivan, Product Marketing Manager at Volvo Trucks North America. “Safety is in our DNA, and that extends to everyone on the road, whether they have two legs or four. We’re proud to partner with the Center for Pet Safety to better understand how drivers travel with their pets and to share practical guidance that supports their comfort and safety.”
Putting the Volvo VNL to the “Pet Test”
As part of this collaboration, experts from the Center for Pet Safety will visit the Volvo Customer Center in Dublin, Virginia, to test the all-new Volvo VNL, the company’s latest long-haul truck. Pet safety specialists will examine its driver comfort features, safety technologies, and interior design. Special attention will be given to the Volvo Parking Cooler and other systems that maintain optimal in-cab conditions—vital for drivers who occasionally need to leave their pets inside the cab.
Using Volvo’s connected app, drivers can monitor and adjust cab temperature remotely, ensuring a safe, climate-controlled environment that keeps pets comfortable and calm during rest stops.
“We’re excited to collaborate with Volvo Trucks North America to spotlight the unique needs of commercial drivers traveling with their pets,” commented Lindsey Wolko, founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Center for Pet Safety. “By combining Volvo’s engineering leadership with our rigorous safety standards, this partnership will deliver practical guidance, product recommendations, and travel resources tailored for the long-haul driving community.”
Volvo Trucks and the Center for Pet Safety will also launch a digital guide in early 2026, featuring safety tips, restraint recommendations, and health planning advice to help drivers ensure safer, stress-free travel for their pets.
