Almost lost amongst the hoopla of the reveal of the 2024 top-of-the-line Chevrolet Silverado EV RST First Edition, was the debut of its Silverado EV WT—the WT stands for work truck, coming in 2023.
Built with fleet customers in mind, the Silverado EV WT is Chevy’s opportunity to electrify work fleets.
Unlike the pretty EV RST First Edition, the WT is bare bones, with a working person mentality.
The WT comes with a 24-module battery pack providing 400 miles of range. It will have a two-motor design with 510 HP and 615 lb-ft of torque. It is a drop, however, from what the EV RST offers: 664 HP and 80 lb-ft of torque.
Worried about battery charge? Don’t be. It can provide enough juice to travel 100 miles after just 10 minutes of recharge.
For your power needs, the WT provides up to 10 outlets—eight of which come standard. There’s a 120v outlet in the eTrunk and one in the center console, four more in the truck bed where there is also a 240v outlet.
Adding a PowerBase power bar provides a pair of 120v and a 240v outlet options. All told, the WT has enough juice to charge up another WT truck.
The interior is what you would expect—nothing fancy. It does come with a 11” center screen, and a seven-inch driver display. There’s also no glass roof—just a sturdy metal one, like you would expect on a work truck.
The WT comes standard with a Tow/Haul mode, hitch provisions, and an integrated trailer brake controller, capable of towing up to 8,000 lbs.
The bed is 5-foot, 11-inches long and can hold 1,200 lbs, though Chevrolet has said that will have accessories for additional tool storage, carry capacity and charging options in both the bed and eTrunk.
By the way, the eTrunk is manually opened, a way Chevy helps keep the price-point manageable for the workfleet—besides, service truck operators can certainly open a door by themselves.
Other WT features—and a perfectly understandable downgrade from the fancy-shmancy EV RST First Edition—include a non-adjustable steel spring setup and four-wheel steering and 18-inch tires with a higher sidewall.
The Chevrolet Silverado EV WT will be assembled at GM's Detroit Factory ZERO at the Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Center, and will be available in the Spring of 2023 with a base price tag of $39,990. There’s also the destination charge to add in.
Despite it having a 2,000 lb less payload capacity relative to the new Ford F-150 Lightning, the Chevrolet Silverado EV WT does have 100 miles additional range and 300lbs more towing capacity, plus more electrical power output.
