The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) Climate Office has announced the recipients of the first round of grants from the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program. This federal initiative funds the development of public EV fast charging stations along major highways in Oregon.
The following companies were chosen for the first three roads in the NEVI program:
- Interstate 205: Electrify America
- Interstate 5 south of Eugene: EV Gateway
- US Highway 97: EV Charging Solutions
These companies were selected through a competitive process and have received an “intent to award” notification. Final grant agreements are still being developed, with the goal of having them in place by the end of 2024. Installation of the NEVI-funded charging stations is expected to begin in 2025.
The proposed locations for these charging stations include:
Interstate 205 (Electrify America):
Interstate 5 south of Eugene (EV Gateway):
- O’Reilly Auto Parts, Cottage Grove
- Roseburg Marketplace, Roseburg
- Sagwal Gas Station, Wolf Creek
- WinCo, Medford
US Highway 97 (EV Charging Solutions):
- E Street, Shaniko (precise location TBD)
- Dairy Queen, Madras
- Dairy Queen, Bend
- La Pine Chamber of Commerce, La Pine
- Eagle Crate Lake Inn, Chemult
- KLA-MO-YA Casino, Chiloquin
- The Growler Guys, Klamath Falls
Note that these locations are tentative and subject to change pending the finalization of grant agreements later this year.
Each charging station will feature at least four DC fast charging ports, capable of delivering a minimum of 150 kW of power, even when all ports are in use.
All stations will be equipped with CCS connectors and parking spaces accessible to people with disabilities. Some stations will also include “pull-through” parking for vehicles towing trailers.
Additional amenities include nearby options for food, water, and restrooms, with some stations offering canopies for shade and rain protection. Security cameras and overhead lighting will also be installed at all locations.
ODOT plans to launch a second round of NEVI funding in the first half of 2025, which will include roads like Interstates 84 and 82, and US 20. For more details about the NEVI program and future developments, visit the Oregon NEVI webpage.
