Mack Trucks used the 2026 Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada, to spotlight the newest evolution of its MP13 engine, now certified to meet upcoming EPA 2027 emissions standards.
The updated platform delivers up to 540 horsepower and 1,950 lb.-ft. of torque, along with as much as three percent improved fuel efficiency compared with the previous MP13. The engine also provides up to 630 braking horsepower—more than a 20 percent improvement—supported by an enhanced Mack mDRIVE automated manual transmission designed for faster, smoother shifts.
The MP13 achieves EPA 2027 compliance through a series of internal refinements aimed at producing a more complete combustion and reducing engine‑out CO₂, soot, and particulate matter. Updates include a more efficient turbocharger, an optimized torque curve that reaches peak torque as low as 900 RPM, and predictive software that moderates engine response to driver inputs for improved drivability and down-speeding.
Fleets looking to incorporate lower‑carbon fuels will also see expanded flexibility. The new MP13 is compatible with renewable diesel (R100) and biodiesel blends up to B20, doubling the allowable blend from the previous generation.
“The MP13 represents years of engineering work to deliver an engine that meets the toughest emissions standards in our industry's history, but does so without asking our customers to compromise on power or efficiency,” said Jonathan Randall, President of Mack Trucks North America. “Mack customers depend on us to keep them moving, and the EPA 2027 MP13 is built to do exactly that.”
Mack will offer the MP13 across its updated lineup. In the Mack Pioneer and all‑new Mack Anthem, the engine targets long‑haul efficiency. In the redesigned Mack Granite, it brings fuel‑saving gains to demanding vocational work. And in the all‑new Mack Keystone, the MP13 helps deliver up to six percent improved fuel efficiency compared with the Pinnacle, supporting mixed‑terrain operations without sacrificing performance.
Orders for the EPA 2027 MP13 open in August 2026, with production scheduled for model year 2028 vehicles.
