This week, September 22-28, 204, is National Technician Appreciation Week, appropriately happening the week after Truck Driver Appreciation Week.
We’re not sure if there’s going to be cake, but we do know that many companies are taking the time to acknowledge the professional contribution of the technicians who help keep the trucking industry on the road and keep customers everywhere happy.
According to Data USA, the workforce of heavy vehicle and mobile equipment service technicians and mechanics in 2022 was 233,823 people, with 1.43 percent women and 98.6 percent men.
While that number of women technicians is low, an article in our forthcoming print issue of Service Truck Magazine—October/November 2024 (out in a few weeks)—titled “More women entering the mechanic’s field” highlights a positive change in demographics.
The National Technician Appreciation Week is organized by the American Trucking Associations (ATA) and its Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC). To them, bravo!
