We aren’t afraid to toot our horn, and neither are we afraid to do so in appreciation of America’s 3.5 million truck drivers.
Between September 15-21, 2024, it’s time to celebrate National Truck Driver Appreciation Week.
This week is supposed to be a time to recognize the efforts of the truck driver and thank them for their hard work and commitment in undertaking one of our economy's most demanding and important jobs.
During this week, various organizations and businesses across the country come together to show their appreciation for truck drivers who play a crucial role in keeping the economy moving.
It could be at your local truck shop or your mechanics’ shop, but there are scheduled events and activities going on from coast to coast, including special recognition ceremonies, giveaways, and social media campaigns offering thanks for their contribution.
Although it’s unclear as to when the first such appreciation week was started, we do know that National Truck Driver Appreciation Week was officially launched in 1988 by the American Trucking Association. Self-serving? Sure! But deserving, yes! The goal was to honor the hard-working men and women who drove trucks over long, lonely hours, often away from their families.
And because we, Service Truck Magazine, are all about the technicians, please be aware that in the week immediately following appreciation for the truck driver, National Technician Appreciation Week occurs!
This year's event takes place September 22-28, 2024.
Anyhow, the event is organized by the American Trucking Associations (ATA) and its Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC) to recognize the hard work and dedication of professional technicians who keep the trucking industry running smoothly.
