Many of the latest developments were highlighted at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2026, where hundreds of technology providers displayed solutions designed to help contractors save time, reduce administrative burden, and improve project performance.
Faster and More Accurate Estimating
Estimating remains one of the most critical stages of any construction project. An inaccurate bid can mean reduced profitability or even the loss of future work opportunities.
New software solutions are helping contractors improve the speed and accuracy of takeoffs while reducing the amount of manual work required.
InSite Software recently updated its Elevation Pro Earthwork & Utility Takeoff Software, which can automatically generate cut-and-fill quantities and combine multiple project documents, including CAD drawings and utility maps, into a single takeoff process.
According to Steve Warfle, President and Chief Executive Officer of InSite Software, the technology can significantly reduce the time required to prepare bids while providing a more detailed understanding of project quantities.
“This is important because these types of jobs are bid lump sum,” said Warfle. “A contractor has to generate all kinds of quantities and turn that into a single cost. They won’t get paid anymore money if they underbid. If the overbid, they might not get anymore jobs. This type of software provides a breakdown of every possible number a grading contractor could have on a jobsite.”
By automating repetitive estimating tasks, firms can focus more attention on project strategy and risk assessment while improving bid accuracy.
Connecting Disconnected Workflows
Despite advances in construction technology, many contractors still rely on spreadsheets, emails, and phone calls to manage critical project activities.
That fragmented approach can create inefficiencies and reduce visibility into project performance.
Doka USA is addressing that challenge with Doka 360, a connected digital platform designed to bring planning, ordering, onsite activities, material management, and delivery information into a single environment.
“Many jobsite processes are still surprisingly analog today,” stated Michael Kennedy, Chief Executive Officer of Doka USA. “Formwork is often ordered by phone, data lives in spreadsheets and emails, and planning is done across disconnected apps. This fragmentation costs the industry valuable time, productivity, and money.”
Integrated digital platforms can help project teams spend less time on administrative tasks while improving communication between the office and the field. Better visibility into materials and project status can also reduce delays and help contractors maintain tighter control over project costs.
Turning Data into Action
Artificial intelligence and data analytics continue to gain momentum across the construction industry, particularly in aggregates and quarry operations.
Modern job sites generate enormous amounts of information through sensors, drones, connected equipment and other digital systems. However, much of that data often goes unused.
Ravi Sahu, Chief Executive Officer of Strayos, believes digital twins and AI-driven analysis can help operators unlock greater value from the information they already collect.
A digital twin creates a virtual representation of a physical asset, operation, or environment. In quarry applications, drones can quickly capture site imagery that is converted into detailed three-dimensional models.
Those models can provide managers with survey-grade measurements, stockpile analysis, and terrain mapping. AI-powered tools can then analyze rock mass characteristics to improve planning and predict blasting outcomes.
“By understanding the rock mass, we stop guessing and start understanding the engineering process,” related Sahu.
According to Strayos, these insights can potentially reduce drilling and blasting costs while helping operators make faster, more informed decisions.
Telematics Moves Beyond Monitoring
Telematics technology has become a standard tool for monitoring equipment health and utilization. But the next generation of telematics is moving beyond simply reporting problems.
One evolution involves bringing equipment information from multiple systems into a single platform.
“There are many operational systems a construction contractor or rental company uses,” pointed out Rob Stamper, Vice President of Sales for Incus5. “They may also use several IoT and telematics providers, including OEM systems. The challenge is that these systems don’t always talk to each other, at least not very well.”
Consolidating data from multiple sources allows fleet managers to gain a clearer view of equipment performance, utilization, and maintenance needs. AI-powered dashboards further simplify analysis by highlighting trends and potential issues.
Another emerging development is remote diagnostics and repair functionality.
Rather than simply identifying fault codes, some telematics platforms can now initiate corrective actions remotely through over-the-air (OTA) capabilities.
“Data doesn’t fix downtime, action does,” said Alejandro Rico, Director of Large Accounts and Connectivity Solutions at Cojali USA. “There’s a difference between having a fault code detected and having one cleared.”
Rico added that advanced remote capabilities, including remote resets and forced diesel particulate filter regenerations, can reduce downtime and lower maintenance costs by minimizing unnecessary service visits.
Technology's Growing Role
As construction companies continue to navigate labor shortages and economic pressures, digital tools are becoming increasingly important for maintaining productivity and profitability.
Whether improving estimates, streamlining workflows, unlocking insights from operational data, or reducing equipment downtime, technology is giving contractors new ways to work smarter.
