The NAFA Fleet Management Association has announced the winners of its 2026 Green Fleet Awards, recognizing fleet organizations that are demonstrating leadership in sustainability and environmentally responsible operations.
Taking the program’s highest honor this year, was the City of Long Beach, California, which was named the No. 1 Green Fleet of 2026 for its commitment to advancing sustainable fleet practices.
In addition to the overall award, NAFA recognized several organizations for achievements in specific areas of fleet sustainability.
- Salt River Project of Arizona received the award for Best Green Garage Practices;
- Santa Clara County, California, was honored for Best Green Garage Facilities;
- District of Columbia Department of Public Works earned recognition for Best Alternative Fuel Integration;
- City of Chesapeake, Virginia, was selected for Best Fleet Internal Green Culture.
- Harris County, Texas, received the Best Problem-Solving Fleet award;
- City of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was recognized for Best Technology Leadership Initiatives.
"The 2026 Green Fleet Award winners demonstrate that there are many ways to make meaningful progress toward more sustainable fleet operations," said Bill Schankel, CAE, Chief Executive Officer of NAFA. "From alternative fuels and new technologies to facilities, workplace culture and creative problem-solving, these fleets are putting innovative ideas into action. We're proud to recognize their leadership and the example they are setting for fleet professionals across North America."
The awards were presented August 25 during the Sustainable Fleet Technology Conference & Expo 2026 in Durham, North Carolina. The event brought together fleet managers, industry suppliers, and transportation professionals to discuss emerging technologies and strategies designed to improve fleet efficiency and sustainability.
According to NAFA, the Green Fleet Awards are open to both government and commercial fleet organizations. Applicants are evaluated using a broad range of criteria, including fleet composition, fuel and emissions management, sustainability accomplishments, outreach efforts, policy development, fuel-saving technologies, and employee engagement initiatives.
The association noted that this year's winners highlight the variety of approaches fleets are using to reduce environmental impact while improving operational performance. From alternative fuel adoption and facility improvements to workplace culture initiatives and technology implementation, the recognized fleets demonstrate multiple pathways toward achieving sustainability goals.
Fleet professionals interested in learning more about the award-winning programs will have an opportunity later this year through the 2026 Green Fleet Awards Webinar Series. Scheduled for October 30 and November 6, the webinars will feature presentations from the winning organizations and provide insight into the strategies and lessons behind their sustainability efforts.
The 2026 Green Fleet Awards program is sponsored by AssetWorks, Blink, FuelForce, and Toyota Fleet.
