There’s a new cool tool from Snap-on Incorporated, the PRO-LINK+, that the company said provides industry-leading diagnostic coverage for Class 1-8 trucks, as well as code-specific repair guidance—all in a rugged handheld device.
The PRO-LINK+ combines hardware and software for a complete code-based diagnostic and repair platform for all makes of trucks, providing a direct path from pulling a fault code via the vehicle communication interface to diagnosing and resolving the problem.
Code descriptions with step-by-step troubleshooting routines, testing procedures, component and connector photos, fault-specific wiring diagrams, specifications, and remove and install instructions are instantly available.
Vehicles are back on the road without unnecessary delays searching for repair information, as it’s all right at the technician’s fingertips without them ever having to leave the vehicle.
The vehicle communication interface has been validated by all major OEMs (original equipment manufacturers). It creates a reliable wireless or wired connection and supports the latest advanced communication protocols, including CAN FD (Controller Area Network Flexible Data-Rate) and DoIP (Diagnostics over Internet Protocol).
Both a nine-pin and a 16-pin adapter are included. At each connection, PRO-LINK+ quickly identifies all fitted systems on the vehicle, displays active and inactive fault codes, and automatically saves a vehicle health report.
The ruggedized PRO-LINK+ hardware has been designed specifically for commercial vehicle service environments. It features a large 12-inch touchscreen, a nine-hour battery life, and an integrated camera with light. There is a USB-C port for charging and connection to a monitor or external devices and two USB 3.0 ports for peripherals. An internal microphone and stereo speakers are built in. The power-saving mode with a five-second startup makes getting to work fast, and the open Windows system allows user-installed software, access to web browsers, and application multi-tasking.
Additional and advanced features include
- OEM-level software for all makes of trucks, engines, transmissions, and brakes is all-inclusive;
- Live data graphing, component failure testing, and replacement component programming;
- The ability to adjust over 600 user-configurable parameters like cruise control, engine idle shutdown, and service intervals;
- Over 200 OEM special tests, including DPF regens, cylinder cutouts, and fuel system leakage tests.
“Effective diagnostic troubleshooting is often cited as the most significant challenge facing commercial vehicle technicians today,” stated Mark Ganey, Senior Product Manager, Snap-on Tools with Snap-on Incorporated. “The PRO-LINK+ is a complete diagnostic system designed to address this need. The proprietary hardware and software combine OEM-level diagnostic capabilities—hundreds of special tests and calibrations—with code-based repair information, including wiring diagrams and photos of component locations, to make PRO-LINK+ the essential diagnostic companion.”
From the common to the rarely seen problem, PRO-LINK+ puts all the necessary diagnostic and repair information in the hands of the technician at unparalleled speed, cutting vehicle downtime and service hours dramatically.
