SKF has expanded its wheel‑end product lineup with three new offerings aimed at improving uptime, reducing unplanned maintenance and strengthening safety for Class 7–8 and vocational applications.
The company introduced the Scotseal X‑Treme HD, the Classic Lock Spindle Nut, and the TraX Wheel End Monitoring System, each engineered to address a specific wheel‑end challenge faced by today’s fleets.
New Scotseal X‑Treme HD Targets Harsh Vocational Environments
The Scotseal X‑Treme HD is designed for off‑road and severe‑duty applications such as waste management, construction, mining and forestry.
SKF said the seal uses a patented labyrinth design, multiple dirt‑exclusion lips and a CR WAVESEAL primary sealing lip to keep contaminants out and lubricants in. The seal also incorporates a third metal unitizer ring to protect the sealing lip during installation and service.
Made from HNBRX and EPDM materials, the seal is built for high heat resistance and long service life, and comes with an extended warranty.
Classic Lock Spindle Nut Completes SKF’s Wheel‑end Portfolio
SKF has also launched the Classic Lock Spindle Nut, engineered to meet TMC standards and provide a simple, secure two‑touch installation.
The nut features a hardened flange‑side face for improved wear resistance and a keeper ring that locks the assembly in place.
SKF said the new design gives fleets a fully SKF‑engineered wheel‑end solution when paired with the company’s seals and bearings.
TraX Monitoring System Detects Failures Before They Occur
Rounding out the new offerings is the TraX Wheel End Monitoring System, which uses vibration and temperature sensing to detect early‑stage bearing damage and abnormal heat events.
When an issue is detected, the system alerts the operator through a telematics dashboard or a wheel‑mounted LED indicator.
The system is fully retrofittable and can be installed on most standard wheel configurations.
SKF noted that early adopters, including Maverick Transportation, have used TraX to identify failing bearings well before failure, reducing downtime and improving safety.
What it Means for Service Truck Operators
For mobile technicians and maintenance providers, the three products represent:
- More predictable wheel‑end service intervals.
- Earlier detection of bearing issues.
- Reduced risk of wheel‑offs and thermal events.
- Simplified installation of spindle nuts.
- Longer‑lasting seals for severe‑duty applications
Together, the additions give fleets a more complete wheel‑end solution from a single supplier.
