FUCHS Lubricants Co., the world’s largest independent lubricant manufacturer, has introduced a new product: RENOLIT CX SWG 0-1. This advanced grease is designed specifically for automotive gear applications, including electric power steering (EPS) systems. Notably, the product is both PFAS-free and lithium-free, underscoring FUCHS’ commitment to environmentally conscious innovation and its proactive response to evolving industry and regulatory demands.
RENOLIT CX SWG 0-1 is a next-generation solution that hold to the highest safety, performance, and environmental standards. With increasing global regulatory focus on substances like per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and lithium hydroxide, FUCHS engineered this new grease to exclude both, without compromising functionality. Agencies such as the US EPA, REACH, and ECHA are driving this shift, and RENOLIT CX SWG 0-1 rises to meet those expectations.
Designed for modern automotive needs, this grease significantly reduces friction and operational noise while ensuring excellent compatibility with high-performance polymers used in steering components. It has undergone comprehensive tribological evaluation with SRV tribometers and rigorous endurance testing tailored to EPS system requirements. These tests confirmed the grease’s outstanding torque stability, resistance to wear, and effective thermal management over the product’s operational lifespan.
RENOLIT CX SWG 0-1 also excels in anti-wear protection and torque efficiency—key factors in ensuring low friction and minimal noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) in demanding steering applications. Compared to older formulations containing PFAS, this grease demonstrates a marked reduction in noise from plastic-to-metal contact, particularly at lower temperatures. This makes it an ideal fit for today’s electric and hybrid vehicles, where compact design, high rack forces, and enhanced NVH characteristics are critical.
The product uses a calcium complex thickener and is rated for a wide temperature range from -40°C to 130°C. It outperforms lithium-based greases with superior 4 Ball Wear test results (0.45 mm) and a 4 Ball EP Weld Load of 315 kgf. Its low-temperature torque and reduced friction coefficient further highlight its suitability for advanced automotive systems.
